San Francisco Bans Plastic Straws But Still Hands Out 4.5 Million Needles Per Year! (REACTION) – San Francisco Video

San Francisco’s board of supervisors voted unanimously to join cities such as Vancouver, Berkeley and Seattle in banning plastic straws. The legislation proposed by Supervisor Katy Tang not only includes the elimination of plastic straws, but many non-recyclable plastic items like coffee stirrers. It also includes language that would make San Francisco the first city in the country to ban fluorinated chemicals in food containers. Because San Francisco uses 1-million plastic straws a day, the issue took center stage.

San Francisco still hands out over 4.5 million hypodermic needles to heroin and other drug addicts across the city. They are also opening at least one drug injection site for users to “safely” use their drugs. They claim their straw policy is for the betterment of the environment, but the needles they hand out and also the lack of enforcement of not using streets as an open toilet go against that environmentalism cop-out.

  1. Heroin is against FEDERAL LAW. The DOJ should file a suit against Cali and keep funds from San Francisco.

  2. The people running San Francisco have lost their minds. Plastic straws verses a major social depression that is consuming this city. Does anyone ever have to ask which one is more important?

  7. You need to check out the articles saying that some places in the bay area want to ban tech firms from having cafeterias. Instead of eating in the work cafeteria for free, you would have to bring your lunch or wade through poop and needles to eat out at a local place.

  8. I live in S.F. hate it more than ever. I don't ever go downtown due to the poop and druggie problem. I'm not sure how plastic straws and utensils are a problem? Better yet, how is it more of a problem than the two things I mentioned above?

I've lived here since 8 years old and this is by far the worse it has been.

Anthony, let me know when you decide to come to S.F. would love to hang out with you. I'm one of the few conservatives here. Asian too.

You should do some research on Asians being democrats and why. Would be an interesting topic. I am the only conservative in my family. Anyway, great video once again. Keep up the good news. Thanks.

  13. So you don't want us to return to a day when we used wax coated paper straws? No they'd probably make those straws out of hemp and that would anger Jesus, huh? It's not disingenuous to anchor banning plastic straws to drug use is it? They just hand out those needles. It's not like you have to turn in old needles to get new ones at a place called the needle EXCHANGE is it? And god forbid us getting the junkies off the streets and into safe injection sites where we could gain control of those needles by handing them out and collecting them right there. You are blinded by your fear that if drugs were legal all the blacks would end up strung out slaves. And your religious moralizing. Have you ever considered that if we stopped treating this as a criminal problem and treated it like a medical issue like it is. Maybe we'd have more success getting these people well? If you want to know what a safe injection sites would look like. Just look at the methadone clinics we already have. Stop being a fear monger. It's counter productive and will just keep things as they are. A bunch of black men in jail being turned into hardened criminals. Because they got high.

  14. The SF Government won't penalize the homeless for shooting up drugs and pooping on the streets. To get the homeless off the streets, give them plastic utensils and straws to use. Then the SFPD will have to arrest and jail them.

Anthony the drug problem is not just bad in San Francisco, I live in Waco Texas and the Heroin and Meth problem has gotten so bad here I have had to move away from it… The drug addicts are sealing everything that is not nailed down for another fix. It’s just insane here and no one is doing anything to stop it. The plastic straw thing is just crazy !!!

  21. Hey Anthony, I love your channel first off! Second I want to point out how ridiculous banning straws are. I believe every business should have the right to use whatever type of utensil they want, as long as it doesn't infringe on other people's right. I use stainless steel straws at home, but I don't think the government should tell us what to do.

I will say though, I believe strongly in needle exchange, and injection sites.

Hear me out. I used heroin for a good portion of my life. I am now over 3 years clean, in college, and a contributing member of society. Injection sites, and needle exchange programs actually help reduce diseas, and needles laying out on the streets.

Where I am from when you go to needle exchange you have to meet with somebody first. This person will help guide you in finding resources in order to get clean. I have seen people use this help and change their life. Many dont though, and it's unfortunate.

Heroin is the devil and most don't make it out, but we have to provide resources and do our best to keep it off the streets and away from our kids. Reducing resources will NOT stop heroin. Addicts will use, regardless.

Unfortunately there are always that careless IV user who will throw their needles on the streets (nothing infuriates me more, especially as a mother), but I just wanted to stress that needle exchange, and injection sites are A GOOD THING. I know it's hard to swallow. I used to be like wtf, you are enabling heroin addicts!!?? I can tell you, addiction is a disease (according to AMA and many other sources), and it has to be treated as such.

With the way heroin is killing our kids (64,000 overdoses in 2016), we have to keep our borders strong. Which is why I am in favor or ICE and cracking down. Heroin is pouring into our nation and we are using it, making drug cartels richer by the minute.

Once again, love your channel. Just wanted to share my thoughts!

If only everybody would take responsibility for themselves, and pick up their own garbage instead of just walking away and saying someone else will clean up my mess, then we wouldnt have to rely on government to fix this problem…i was homeless for awhile, and that is no excuse for being a slob.
