We are marking an extraordinary milestone this year as it has been 90 incredible years since the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens was first established. The San Francisco Zoo was founded on June 12, 1929, by philanthropist, Herbert Fleishhacker and since then, our beloved zoo has been a huge part of San Francisco’s history. The origins of our park from a handful of exotic animals in 1929 to today, as a leading education and conservation organization, has been a real evolution.
We are kicking off a year-long celebration of the Zoo’s 90th anniversary with a 90 cent admission for children under 14 in January. For many children, meeting a giraffe, bear, or lion is the highlight of their year, and we can’t think of a better way to start 2019 than with a Zoo visit!
